Supporting new narratives on the value of diversity
The main goal of the STAND project is to support European cities in building effective narratives that highlight the value of living together in diversity and the contribution of minorities to the social and cultural development of cities and Europe as a whole.
Achieving the project objective
The objective will be achieved by engaging civil society organisations from various European cities, particularly those working with young people, and enabling them to take an active part in
the process of building and disseminating alternative narratives.
These activities will also help increase exchange and cooperation between European cities on the project’s main theme.
Who is the project for?
The project aims to involve a range of target groups: representatives of local authorities, civil society organisations, organisations working with young people, youth associations and youth groups.
Project activities:
- An assessment of the current situation to identify the difficulties and needs of cities in creating and disseminating narratives on diversity. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, the assessment aims to gather information and insights from people directly involved in promoting diversity at local level.
- Development of a training programme on building new narratives for staff of local authorities and civil society organisations, including youth organisations.
- Co-creation of new narratives together with local community stakeholders and young people, developing narratives in a participatory way through various methods – meetings, workshops and working sessions. Positive narratives may concern, for example, an area of activity, a selected city policy or a project promoting diversity and countering discrimination, among others.
- Pilot implementation of communication activities to disseminate narratives that raise awareness about diversity and promote interculturalism at the local level through jointly selected communication channels.
- Promotion of locally developed narratives at the European level.
Expected results
- increased competences of local authority and civil society organisation staff in building new narratives;
- involvement of cities in creating and disseminating effective narratives on diversity;
- promoting and raising awareness of interculturalism and diversity in local contexts;
- development of cooperation and exchange of experience between cities from different EU countries.
