Launch of the “Together on Interculturality” networking meeting series – report and meeting notes

“Intercultural Wrocław is a matter for all of us” – this guiding idea was echoed many times during the inaugural meeting of the “Together on Interculturality” series. The meeting, held on 14 September at Barbara, was attended by representatives of more than 30 non-governmental organisations, institutions and Wrocław City Hall departments working in the field of intercultural dialogue.

The meeting was opened by the organisers’ representatives: Dorota Feliks, Director of WCRS, Maria Mika of Dolnośląska Federacja Organizacji Pozarządowych and Tadeusz Mincer of Fundacja na Rzecz Studiów Europejskich, who highlighted key issues such as the role of cross-sector cooperation and networking for effective action on interculturality.

Deputy Mayor of Wrocław Bartłomiej Ciążyński thanked all participants for their commitment to building a city that is open to everyone. He also spoke about the value of the Wrocław Strategy for Intercultural Dialogue (2018–2022) (hereinafter “the Strategy”) and stressed the importance of the challenge of jointly developing a programme for the integration of Wrocław’s new residents.

The floor was also taken by the directors of the Social Affairs Department, Bartłomiej Świerczewski and Jacek Pluta, who spoke about the challenges and opportunities of implementing intercultural policies at local government level.

Participants then heard from Marta Majchrzak (WCRS), who presented a plan of action for building an intercultural Wrocław, focusing in particular on the evaluation of the Strategy and the public consultations, research and publications carried out.

The second part of the meeting consisted of round-table sessions, in which participants from non-governmental organisations and municipal units discussed needs, challenges and solutions in four thematic areas: Knowledge, Education, Cooperation and Support.

The event was a great opportunity to talk about joint activities and also an important step towards finding solutions to intercultural challenges for the benefit of Wrocław’s community.

We invite you to read the detailed notes from the meeting and the outcomes of the round-table sessions in each area (links below).
