I would like to buy a laptop in Poland and take it to Ukraine. Can I claim a VAT refund?
Yes, if you are a third-country national and do not have a permanent place of residence in the EU, e.g. you are staying in Poland as a tourist, on a visa or under the visa-free regime.
If you spend at least PLN 200 in shops displaying the TAX FREE logo, you can claim a VAT refund. To do so, tell the seller and choose the refund method (cashless or cash – remember that this cannot be changed later) and the format of the TAX FREE document (printed or electronic).
Currently, the documents are sent to the border electronically.
At the border, show the customs officer your documents and, if requested, the goods you are taking out of the country. If you are not taking some of the purchased goods with you, be sure to tell the officer. The TAX FREE system will then generate an electronic confirmation of export, which the seller will receive automatically. On request, you can have your printout stamped with the POLSKA-CŁO customs stamp.
If you leave the EU from a country other than the one where you bought the goods, you must have paper TAX FREE documents.
To collect a cash VAT refund, you must return to the seller in person on your next visit. A cashless refund will be made automatically.
