Training for people supporting migrants and refugees

We invite you to a training session on international protection, which will take place on 10 February at 5:00 pm at Przejście Dialogu (Passage of Dialogue). We especially welcome people involved in helping migrants seeking international protection, organisations and informal support groups, people organising collections for residents of open and guarded centres for foreigners, and anyone interested in the subject who would like to broaden their knowledge of the law on granting international protection in Poland.

Participants will become familiar with the procedure for granting international protection in Poland, the legislation governing the granting of refugee status and the individual stages of the procedure. To take part in the meeting, please write to: wromigrant@wcrs.wroclaw.pl

Participants will find out:

  • What is the procedure for granting international protection and how does it work?
  • Who can apply for international protection in Poland?
  • Can the terms international protection and asylum be used interchangeably?
  • What support is available to people in the so-called refugee procedure?
  • Do people in the procedure have to stay in a centre for foreigners?
  • What is life like in a centre for foreigners and where are these centres located?
  • Can people applying for international protection work?
  • What is detention and how do guarded centres for foreigners operate?
  • What happens if an application for international protection is refused?
  • What happens once international protection has been granted and what rights do refugees have?
  • What is the IPI (Individual Integration Programme) and how long does it last?

The training will be delivered by Magdalena Nazimek-Rakoczy, a lawyer at the WroMigrant Information Point at the Wrocław Centre for Social Development and at the Nomada Association, who has many years of experience working with migrants and refugees. Language of the training: Polish.
